⛏ Nvidia, the trillion dollar shovel seller

They say that during a gold rush, you should sell picks and shovels instead of panning for gold yourself.

During the AI craze, Nvidia has followed that advice.

The company’s AI chips are the “backbone” of the AI industry and have propelled $NVDA from a ~$300 billion company to a trillion dollar one in less than a year.

Quarterly revenue jumped 101% to $13.5 billion and net profit nearly 9x’d to $6.5 billion.

This didn’t happen overnight. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang anticipated the trend:

"We had the good wisdom to go put the whole company behind it. We saw early on, about a decade or so ago, that this way of doing software could change everything,"

👨‍💼 Professionals aren’t worried about being replaced by AI

Worried about your job being taken by AI?

According to a new survey, two-thirds of professional workers are not worried about that possibility. Instead, they expect AI to enhance their current skill set and productivity.

66% of the 1,200 professionals surveyed did not expect their industry to become obsolete due to AI.

While many expect low-skill tasks to be automated and replaced by AI, professionals clearly think that their uniquely human judgment will always be needed, at least for the foreseeable future.

🖼️ Alibaba’s new AI can understand images

Alibaba just launched two new AI models: Qwen-VL and Qwen-VL-Chat.

The two models can interpret images and carry on complex conversations. According to Alibaba, the models can answer open-ended questions about images and generate captions for images.

The model can interpret writing in an image, such as a photo of a math equation, and give an answer or explanation of the text.

These models help to create a bridge between text and images, which AI models have struggled with historically.

The AI models are part of Alibaba’s cloud division, which is looking to create buzz ahead of going public.
