OpenAI filed for a new trademark on July 18th, titled “GPT-5”.
This tells that GPT-5 is in the works.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us much more than that. We have no idea when OpenAI would release the next iteration of its LLM, but no one’s expecting it anytime soon.
Futurism puts it like this: “What's more likely is that OpenAI will focus its efforts on improving its GPT-4 model, instead of pouring all its resources into the next iteration.”
Keep in mind GPT-4 has only been available for about 5 months, so OpenAI probably isn’t about to release GPT-5.
Progress is quick in AI, but not that quick.
📷 Influencers Beware: Instagram is Working on an AI Detector

Imagine if Instagram alerted users when a photo was altered by AI.
That could soon become a horrifying reality for influencers.
Meta is working on AI-detection tools that would help users spot the difference between real and fake photos.
We’ve already seen several AI-generated photos go viral before ‘fact checkers’ could get in there days later and clarify the authenticity of the photo. Think Pope Francis in the puffy white jacket.
But now, Instagram is hoping to clarify if a photo is fake the moment it’s posted.
The primary goal would be to fight misinformation, so influencers who just want to make their selfies look a bit hotter may be okay for now.

Ever get bored of chatting with the same repetitive chatbot?
Meta is working on a fix for this.
According to TechCrunch, Meta will roll out chatbots with unique personalities as soon as next month.
For example, you could ask a surfer chatbot for advice on where to travel, or you could chat with an Abraham Lincoln chatbot.
We don’t have time travel, but being able to chat online with Honest Abe or any other historical figure could be as close to time travel as we’ll ever see.
Oh, and since this is Meta: Think of all the glorious personal data they’ll mine from these conversations.
