👀 BlackRock Bets Big on Groq

Groq, a startup developing AI acceleration chips, has raised $640 million in a new funding round led by BlackRock, valuing the company at $2.8 billion.

The company's Language Processing Unit (LPU) claims to run generative AI models 10 times faster and with one-tenth the energy of conventional processors. Groq's GroqCloud platform, which offers various AI models and APIs, has attracted over 356,000 developers.

The startup faces stiff competition from industry giants like Nvidia and other tech companies developing custom AI chips. To differentiate itself, Groq is focusing on enterprise and government outreach, including partnerships with Carahsoft and plans to install LPUs in data centers globally.

📺 YouTuber Sues OpenAI for $5M+

A YouTube creator, David Millette, has filed a class action lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that the company used transcripts from millions of YouTube videos to train its AI models without notifying or compensating content owners.

The lawsuit claims OpenAI violated copyright law and YouTube's terms of service, seeking over $5 million in damages for affected creators.

This legal action comes as AI companies face increasing restrictions on data access, with many websites blocking web crawlers.

The suit highlights the growing tension between AI companies' need for training data and content creators' rights. It also coincides with Elon Musk's separate lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of abandoning its nonprofit mission.

🎨 Black Forest Labs announces FLUX.1

Black Forest Labs, founded by Stable Diffusion creators Robin Rombach and Patrick Esser, launches Flux.1, a 12B-parameter open source SOTA text-to-image model, the largest released to date.

Flux aims to match Midjourney quality while offering open-source options. The model comes in three versions: a non-commercial dev version, a fast Apache-licensed version, and a closed-source pro version. Flux release marks a major step in accessible, high-quality AI image generation.
